Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Kortez Endorses Laurette Healey

Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz endorsed San Fernando Valley businesswoman and green jobs development professional Laurette Healey today in her bid for California State Assembly District 46.

“Laurette Healey has a deep understanding of the urgent need to create more jobs to get our economy moving again,” said Councilman Koretz. “Given her experience of working in government to root out waste, fraud and abuse, coupled with her background of helping businesses grow and creating jobs, it was an easy decision for me to endorse her candidacy for Assembly.”

“I’m honored to have the support of Councilman Koretz,” said Healey. “Having his support the day after I announced my candidacy for Assembly sends a strong message that my campaign is off to a running start, and that I will be a powerful force in this race. As someone with the broad background of serving as a community advocate, businesswoman, Deputy State Controller, and resident of the Valley for 20 years, I want to bring that perspective to the State Assembly.”

Healey’s state government work experience includes serving as Deputy State Controller to former State Controller Steve Westly and in the Executive Office of State Controller John Chiang. More recently Healey coordinated environmental technologies and job placement programs through California’s community colleges. In 2004, Healey was elected by a consortium of South Valley Neighborhood Council’s to represent the Valley’s priorities during the Mayor’s Budget Process, and was elected to the Board of the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council, serving as its Government Affairs Chair for three years.

Before turning to public service, Healey had distinguished herself as a successful businesswoman in the entertainment industry as a founder of her own entertainment firm in partnership with Home Shopping Network Entertainment, JV, Inc. She was also named to the “Who’s Who of Women Executives” as one of the youngest female CEO’s of a public company in America at that time.

Healey has served on countless community and advocacy boards including the following:

  • Board Member, Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley

  • Board Member, California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV)

  • Board Member, LAUSD "Beyond the Bell"

Meet Laurette Healey

I have given my all as a community advocate, businesswoman, and resident of the Valley for 20 years, and I have witnessed firsthand that our community is struggling. Working families are stressed by the instability of their jobs, and mounting foreclosures have devastated our home values. Our government must get down to business. I believe I can offer real solutions before we run out of time.

During these tough times I coordinated the largest renewable energy workforce training in the State of California, which re-trained displaced workers in the construction industry in State Certified green building technologies which resulted in one of the highest job placements (over 50%) statewide.

As as a former Deputy State Controller, I worked to root-out waste, fraud and abuse in government, in order to make sure our state gets the most out of its financial resources. When I take my place as an elected representative of our community, I'll lead our fight to make Sacramento more efficient, and take swift action to fuel small businesses, protect our senior citizens, fix our schools, and stabilize the lives of working families. I have a seasoned track record of knowing how to do it, and I will work hard to make that happen.
