Former California State Assemblyman Tom Calderon Endorses Laurette Healey

Healey’s List of Key Supporters Continues to Grow

Coming on the heels of last week’s endorsement from the California branch of the National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC), today Former California State Assemblyman Tom Calderon endorsed San Fernando Valley businesswoman and green jobs development professional Laurette Healey, in her bid for California’s new 46th Assembly seat.

“We need Jobs Democrats in Sacramento, and that’s why I’m supporting Laurette Healey for State Assembly,” said Former Assemblyman Calderon. “Laurette’s record of helping businesses grow by spurring local economic development has already generated new green jobs at the local level. Sacramento could use more legislators, like her, who have a deep knowledge of economic policy, the brainpower to develop new ways to create jobs, and the ability to get things done.”

“Tom Calderon has had a remarkable career dedicated to serving the residents of his community,” said Healey. “I am pleased to count him as one of my key endorsers, and I look forward to going to Sacramento and working with him on the issues our communities care most about, like more good jobs, better schools, and getting our economy back on track.”

Former Assemblyman Tom Calderon previously represented California’s 58th Assembly District from 1998-2002 and previously served on the Montebello Unified School District. He is currently running again for the 58th Assembly District.

In addition to her endorsement last week from the California Chapter of NWPC, Healey has also won powerful endorsements from California Black Chamber of Commerce, California State Senator Ron Calderon, California State Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz.

She has also recently picked up support from Rick Jacobs, Founder and Chair of the Courage Campaign*, West Hollywood Mayor John Duran, West Hollywood Mayor Pro-Tem Jeff Prang, and New York State Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, who led the passage of New York’s recent Marriage Equality Act in the New York State Assembly.

Meet Laurette Healey

I have given my all as a community advocate, businesswoman, and resident of the Valley for 20 years, and I have witnessed firsthand that our community is struggling. Working families are stressed by the instability of their jobs, and mounting foreclosures have devastated our home values. Our government must get down to business. I believe I can offer real solutions before we run out of time.

During these tough times I coordinated the largest renewable energy workforce training in the State of California, which re-trained displaced workers in the construction industry in State Certified green building technologies which resulted in one of the highest job placements (over 50%) statewide.

As as a former Deputy State Controller, I worked to root-out waste, fraud and abuse in government, in order to make sure our state gets the most out of its financial resources. When I take my place as an elected representative of our community, I'll lead our fight to make Sacramento more efficient, and take swift action to fuel small businesses, protect our senior citizens, fix our schools, and stabilize the lives of working families. I have a seasoned track record of knowing how to do it, and I will work hard to make that happen.
